You may well ask why I joined this movement – for the last many years, with increasing apprehension; I have been witness to rise in pollution levels both in our city and our country. This led me to ask myself, and others around me, if there are any ways that I could help halt the damage, if not entirely help reverse the process. Many well-meaning friends came up with various suggestions. While all the suggestions had some merit or other, I was most awestruck by the potential of the Neem tree – Not only on its ability to reverse pollution, but also play an important role in protecting and sustaining the environment as they can help us lead a life that walks lightly on mother earth.

Disturbed by the pollution & threat to the environment she was on the look out for an Organisation that was independent & would give her an opportunity to reach out to individuals & groups that work on spreading awareness  about saving the environment. With this in mind she approached the Neem Foundation to provide her with a platform to air her views. She was briefed upon the challenges faced by the Neem movement in reaching out to influential individuals of the film industry. Waheeda Rehman went forth with two causes that needed attention in the Neem movement.

Neeming India : a programme to plant 10 crore Neem trees by the year 2020. As an ambassador of the Foundation. Waheedaji was actively pursuing the cause of the Neem tree & at every given opportunity approach she is actively involved at the campaign to have Neem tree declared as the ‘National Heritage tree of India’.

Let us come together to plant more Neem trees – The target is 10 crore
